Biography
Professor of Genome Medicine in the Department of Physiology, Norfilza Mohd Mokhtar is currently the Chairman of the Health and Advanced Medicine cluster. She was the International Program Coordinator for the Faculty of Medicine. She graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia with a Doctor of Medicine degree. Professor Stephen Charnock Jones and Professor Stephen Smith of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, mentored her in molecular biology from 2001 to 2005. From 2019 to 2020, she will serve as President of the Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology. Her study focused on the effects of steroids on macrophage inflammatory protein 2 gamma in the endometrium. She was made a life member of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge, and a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. Her scientific interests include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel illness, colitis-associated cancer, and gynecological diseases, with an emphasis on genetics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics.
