Biography

Director-Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Shakuntala Chhabra formerly held the positions of Dean, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at MGIMS (1984–2007). (2007-10). She is currently assisting MGIMS in building a hospital for children and mothers at Melghat's village of Utavali has the dubious reputation of having a high prevalence of severe malnutrition. She graduated from MBBS in 1970, DGO in 1973, and MD in 1975 in Nagpur's Government Medical College. In 1975, she transferred to MGIMS as a lecturer. She was appointed director of the institute's obstetrics and gynaecology department in 1984. Throughout her illustrious career, she won numerous accolades. In 2002, she served as the Association of Gynecologic Oncologists of India's president. She oversees the Community Based Reproductive Health Care Project and the Sevagram Project for the welfare of unwed mothers. She has held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Aakanksha for more than 20 years. Women's reproductive health, gynaecological oncology, and the training of medical professionals are some of her particular research interests.
